In light to our previous article ‘’, decluttering and challenges for that were shared. We hoped that you’ve read it, and it had helped you empty out things that you no longer need anymore. Moving on along the same line, we like to add on that sometimes, little moves or renovation ideas can transform your homes for the better, be it visually, psychologically or in reality.

Here’s some tips for you:

1. (Hallway) Change that Door Mat

Off with the sentimental value you have for this door mat that has been with you since the day you’ve moved, or from a year ago. It’s time to change (or replace) with a new one for the new year. And, *sprinkles some salt like that Korean Drama we’ve just watched* let the bad energies be gone from your home, starting with your doorsteps.

2. (Front Door) Clean, prime and give your front door and gate a new look. Probably a new paint for the new year?

3. Patch up the cracks on your walls. And there, you have a new wall, and your home doesn’t look like it’s going to fall apart.

Wall Putty can be found easily at any local DIY or homeware/hardware stores.

4. Clean those grouts and patches.

Go natural when you do it, and you’ll thank yourself in a long run, freeing yourself and your companions at home from the side effects of the cleaning chemicals.

How to do it?

Baking soda would have been an item on your cooking rack if you are baking. But it can also be used for cleaning of stubborn stains and acts well as a cleaning agent for countertops, stainless steel skinks, range hoods, cooking utensils and microwave. It’s also useful in dissolving grease from your pots and pans. Smelt something bad or musty? Try sprinkling some baking soda as well and let this wondrous ingredient sit for 15 minutes before removing. Mildews in the crevices of your otherwise marvellously tiled bathroom? Use baking soda on a damp sponge to scrub, it’ll prevent mildews from coming back, for at least a few good months. It’s uses are endless, just google it.

5. Update your light fixtures

You don’t have to spend a fortune and stress yourself up on spending grands on uplifting the living room, or entertaining area. A change of the main light fixture could change how the living room looks and feels.

6. (Bathrooms) Replace the shower curtains and clean the sinks, faucets and bathtubs

Try adding a little furnishing or planter to the bathrooms, you’ll be surprised how this will change the look of your bathrooms.

7. A change of your home’s curtains, patterns and colours of your cushion covers and bedspreads is an easy way to change the look and feel of your home.

8. Remodel your cabinets, if needed

A simple way to style up your kitchen, or wherever the cabinets are located at, is to update the hardware. In other words, change the knobs of your cabinets, for a look that you desire. And it’s obviously a less expensive way of giving your cabinets a new look.

Another great way to give your cabinets a makeover is to repaint them from the insides. Of course you have your doubts, for those with fully covered cabinets, but this works really well for open or glass cabinets and you will be surprised how much this little touch-up can alter the look.

Here’s a little colour combination inspiration for you.

Add on a varnish too if needed, for easier future maintenance, and an extended life to your cabinets.
